Welcome

This website is a collection of my trips, maintenance and modifications to my Land Rovers. The procedures shown on this site are simply a documentation of my methods and are not necessarily correct or the only way to do things. I HIGHLY recommend you have a repair manual present and defer to it when in doubt.
Greetings!
As a person that didn’t grow up working on cars, I found it very difficult to get started. While my 1973 Series III 88″ was a “simple vehicle” - it wasn’t like there was a “Land Rover Series III Repairs for Dummies” book waiting for me on the shelves of my local bookstore. In fact, many of the more general auto repair manuals I found didn’t have pictures or illustrations that looked anything like my car. I found lots of good advice on the internet in forums and on owners club lists but often found the advice phrased for someone that already had experience. Through trial and error and with the help of many others I think I have climbed my way up to the noble rank of “Destructive Hobbiest” from the horrible ranks of those who lack the confidence to try and fix things themselves. As a Destructive Hobbiest I can take many of the vague instructions found in books and on the Internet and muddle my way through a basic repair and do it successfully and on my own at least 50% of the time. Sometimes I’m forced to beg someone to come help me and bribe them with random parts, beers and/or dinner. The benefit here is that I can learn from my mistakes. The attitude I have is “I can always pay someone to fix it if I screw it up badly” and usually don’t have to. I have also found that your local mechanic will take pity on you if you bring your car in with a botched repair and often times will give you free advice and/or a discount. The biggest problem with paying a mechanic is that you didn’t learn anything and very simple repairs will cost you a lot of dough that could have better spent on cool things like rocksliders, roof tents, overdrives and other wishlist items.
Because of this I’ve decided to outline some of the more simple maintenance and modification procedures in excruciating detail using lots of pictures with the hopes of helping people like me and to serve as documentation for myself. Feel free to leave comments below any articles you’d like and especially if you spot an error. I hope you find some of the content useful.
Thanks and happy Rovering!
